Choose Your Cover Fabric

7 oz. Polyester — Our entry-level marine cover fabric, woven from 100% polyester fiber at a 7 oz. per linear yard weight. This lighter option keeps the cover manageable for solo handling while still delivering reliable protection against sun, rain, and debris. Backed by a 3-year fabric warranty. Ships in Black.

9 oz. Polyester — Step up to our heavy-duty polyester, engineered at 9 oz. per linear yard for boats that face tougher conditions or extended outdoor storage. The denser weave adds an extra layer of defense against abrasion and weather without adding unnecessary bulk. Protected by a 5-year fabric warranty. Ships in Navy or Black.

Sunbrella® — For boaters who want the best, our Sunbrella covers use 100% solution-dyed acrylic — the same fabric trusted by marine professionals worldwide. Naturally resistant to fading, mold, and water damage, Sunbrella holds its color and integrity season after season. Covered by a 6-year fabric warranty. Ships in Black, Smoke, or Marine Blue.

Both polyester options feature solution-dyed construction, where pigment is infused into each fiber during production rather than applied to the surface afterward. This process locks color deep into the material, preventing any dye transfer to your boat’s gel coat or finish. The result is a cover that stays vibrant without bleeding or rubbing off. Our polyester is also designed to breathe — it allows moisture trapped underneath to vent out naturally, reducing the risk of mildew and keeping your boat dry. The fabric holds its form without sagging or stretching over time, stays lightweight enough for one person to handle, and stands up to prolonged UV exposure and harsh marine weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 221 Winyah Bay is named after Winyah Bay in Georgetown, South Carolina—one of the Southeast's most renowned inshore fishing destinations where four rivers converge into a massive tidal estuary. The name isn't marketing; it's a design statement. Scout engineered the 221 Winyah Bay specifically for the kind of fishing that Winyah Bay demands: shallow-water access (12" draft), protection from variable weather (T-Top hardtop), and enough range and power (64-gallon tank, twin-engine capable) to explore miles of tidal creeks, marsh islands, and oyster bars. It's a boat built for the conditions its name describes.
The twin-engine option (up to 150 HP per side, 300 HP combined) gives the 221 Winyah Bay significantly more power and redundancy than the single-engine configuration. Twin engines provide better acceleration, higher top speed, and the safety of redundancy—if one engine fails, you can still get home on the other. For guides running charters in remote tidal areas where towing assistance may be hours away, twin engines are essential. The tradeoff is higher fuel consumption and maintenance costs, so recreational owners who fish closer to home often choose the single 200 HP option for simplicity and economy.
The regular Bay series (200 Bay, 201 Bay, 220 Bay, 240 Bay) are pure shallow-water fishing platforms. The 221 Winyah Bay adds more versatility—twin-engine capability, a larger fuel tank (64 gallons), and slightly more beam (8'6") for stability in rougher conditions. It bridges the gap between a dedicated bay boat and a nearshore fishing platform. Think of it as the Bay series boat that can handle a choppier crossing to reach the protected fishing waters on the other side.
While the 221 Winyah Bay is designed for serious fishing, the 22'1" length, 8'6" beam, and T-Top shade make it comfortable for family outings. The deck space accommodates seating for 4–6 people, and the shallow draft allows access to secluded beaches and sandbars that deeper boats can't reach. Many owners use the 221 Winyah Bay as a weekday fishing boat and weekend family cruiser. The T-Top cover protects all the seating and deck surfaces between uses, keeping the boat family-ready at all times.
The 221 Winyah Bay excels at targeting inshore and nearshore species: redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead, and tarpon in the Southeast; snook, red drum, and permit in Florida waters; and striped bass and bluefish in mid-Atlantic estuaries. The 12" draft and quiet NuV3 hull allow you to approach fish in shallow water without spooking them, and the twin-engine option provides the power to reach distant fishing spots quickly. Guides targeting redfish on the flats particularly love the Winyah Bay series for its combination of shallow access and stability.
The T-Top cover is custom-fitted to the 221 Winyah Bay's specific 8'6" beam and 22'1" length, ensuring full coverage from console to transom without bunching or gapping. The wider beam actually improves water runoff—the cover has more surface area to shed rain efficiently, reducing pooling risk. Tie-down straps and hem cord anchor at the rubrail along the full beam width, distributing tension evenly. The wider platform also makes cover installation easier because the boat is more stable on a lift or trailer.
Yes, the T-Top cover works on both dock lifts and trailers. When trailering the 221 Winyah Bay, install the cover before transport to protect from road debris, bug splatter, and UV exposure during highway driving. Ensure all tie-down straps are secure—highway wind speeds create more stress than dock storage. Remove the cover before launching to prevent water damage during ramp entry. The cover folds compactly for storage in a breathable mesh bag while the boat is in use.
With twin 150 HP engines (300 HP combined), expect 1.5–2.5 mpg at cruise speed depending on sea state and load. The NuV3 hull's efficiency means the 221 Winyah Bay doesn't require excessive throttle to maintain cruise, keeping fuel consumption reasonable despite the twin-engine setup. The 64-gallon tank provides 100–160 nm of realistic range at cruise. With the single 200 HP option, fuel economy improves to 2.5–3.5 mpg, extending range significantly. Choose your engine configuration based on where you fish and how far you need to run.
The 221 Winyah Bay drafts 1 inch more than the 201 Bay (12" vs. 11"), which is a negligible difference in practical shallow-water fishing. Both boats access the same grass flats and tidal creeks. The 221 Winyah Bay's extra inch of draft is a tradeoff for its larger size, twin-engine capability, and greater fuel capacity. If you fish extremely shallow water (6–8 inches) where every inch matters, the 201 Bay has a slight edge. For typical bay and flats fishing in 12+ inches of water, the 221 Winyah Bay's additional capabilities are worth the minimal draft increase.
For winter storage, install the T-Top cover and ensure all tie-down straps are secure. If storing outdoors, check the cover every 2–3 weeks for water pooling and mold growth. Remove the battery to prevent corrosion, and run the engines monthly (or at minimum, fog them before winter storage). The cover keeps snow, ice, and debris off the deck and console, reducing spring maintenance significantly. For boats stored in heated buildings, the cover can be removed to allow air circulation, though it still provides dust and debris protection during storage.

Scout 221 Winyah Bay T-Top Boat Cover

Named after Georgetown, South Carolina’s legendary Winyah Bay—where four rivers converge into one of the Southeast’s richest fishing estuaries—the Scout 221 Winyah Bay is a boat that earns its name every time it hits the water. At 22’1″ with the NuV3 triple-stepped hull, a versatile twin-engine option (up to 300 HP combined), and a 64-gallon fuel tank, this bay-class T-Top delivers the shallow-water access of a flats skiff with the range and power of a nearshore fishing platform. The 12″ draft navigates tidal creeks and grass flats that standard center consoles can’t touch, while the 8’6″ beam provides stability for standing casts and fighting fish in current. Scout has built every hull in Summerville since 1989—just 60 miles from the real Winyah Bay where this boat was born to fish.

A Perfect Fit T-Top cover for the 221 Winyah Bay shields the deck, console, and seating below the hardtop from the corrosive mix of salt spray, UV exposure, and humidity that defines bay fishing environments. Choose between solution-dyed marine fabric (5–7 years of reliable protection) or premium Sunbrella acrylic (8–10 years of superior salt and mold resistance). The cover’s reinforced stitching, hem cord at the rubrail, and adjustable tie-down straps are engineered for the 221 Winyah Bay’s specific geometry, ensuring water sheds efficiently across the wide 8’6″ beam and tension distributes evenly across all anchor points.

Built for the Bay, Protected for the Long Haul

Bay boats work harder than most—they run shallow flats where salt spray is constant, park on oyster bars where tidal water splashes the deck, and sit on dock lifts between trips where humidity promotes mold growth. The 221 Winyah Bay’s T-Top cover is designed for this punishing environment. The tight custom fit prevents wind lift in exposed coastal locations, while the fabric’s UV resistance keeps your gelcoat and upholstery from fading in the relentless Lowcountry sun. For guides who run the 221 Winyah Bay commercially, the cover is a business investment—it keeps the boat charter-ready without hours of cosmetic maintenance between trips.
