Choose Your Cover Fabric

7 oz. Polyester — Our entry-level marine cover fabric, woven from 100% polyester fiber at a 7 oz. per linear yard weight. This lighter option keeps the cover manageable for solo handling while still delivering reliable protection against sun, rain, and debris. Backed by a 3-year fabric warranty. Ships in Black.

9 oz. Polyester — Step up to our heavy-duty polyester, engineered at 9 oz. per linear yard for boats that face tougher conditions or extended outdoor storage. The denser weave adds an extra layer of defense against abrasion and weather without adding unnecessary bulk. Protected by a 5-year fabric warranty. Ships in Navy or Black.

Sunbrella® — For boaters who want the best, our Sunbrella covers use 100% solution-dyed acrylic — the same fabric trusted by marine professionals worldwide. Naturally resistant to fading, mold, and water damage, Sunbrella holds its color and integrity season after season. Covered by a 6-year fabric warranty. Ships in Black, Smoke, or Marine Blue.

Both polyester options feature solution-dyed construction, where pigment is infused into each fiber during production rather than applied to the surface afterward. This process locks color deep into the material, preventing any dye transfer to your boat’s gel coat or finish. The result is a cover that stays vibrant without bleeding or rubbing off. Our polyester is also designed to breathe — it allows moisture trapped underneath to vent out naturally, reducing the risk of mildew and keeping your boat dry. The fabric holds its form without sagging or stretching over time, stays lightweight enough for one person to handle, and stands up to prolonged UV exposure and harsh marine weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 222 Dorado is the mid-size sweet spot of the Dorado family—larger and more capable than the entry-level 202 and 215, but more manageable and affordable than the 235 and 242. At 22'2" with twin-engine capability, 70 gallons of fuel, and the full dual-console walk-around layout, it's the model that balances family comfort, fishing capability, and practical ownership costs. Many Dorado buyers start their search at the 222 because it offers the most complete feature set without the size and expense of the larger models.
Twin engines (up to 150 HP per side, 300 HP combined) give the 222 Dorado significantly more power, better acceleration, and the safety of engine redundancy. For families cruising remote coastal areas, twin engines mean you can always get home even if one engine fails. The twin setup also improves low-speed maneuvering in marinas and tight waterways. The tradeoff is higher fuel consumption and double the engine maintenance costs. For recreational use within 10 nm of shore, the single 200 HP option is more economical. For serious cruising or longer runs, twins are worth the investment.
The Dorado's dual-console design includes a forward passenger windshield that blocks wind, spray, and bugs for passengers in the forward seating area. This transforms the cruising experience—passengers arrive at destinations dry and comfortable rather than windblown and salt-sprayed. The windshield also provides safety for children in the forward seating area. Your center console cover protects the windshield glass and frame from salt etching and UV degradation during storage, maintaining clear visibility and structural integrity.
The 222 Dorado can support overnight anchoring in protected waters—the dual-console layout provides more sheltered seating than open center consoles, and the 70-gallon fuel tank gives good range between fuel stops. However, it doesn't have a dedicated cabin with sleeping berths like larger Dorado models. Some owners create makeshift sleeping arrangements using the forward seating area with cushions. For true overnight cruising with cabin amenities, the 235 Dorado or 242 Dorado are better choices. The 222 Dorado excels as a long-day boat and light overnighter.
At 2,100 lbs dry weight plus engine(s), fuel, and trailer, expect total towing weight of 5,000–6,500 lbs depending on single or twin engine configuration. A 3/4-ton pickup truck is recommended for the twin-engine version; a half-ton truck can handle the single-engine configuration. The 22'2" length requires a dual-axle trailer for safe transport. Remove the center console cover before highway trailering to prevent wind damage.
The walk-around deck circuit with continuous safety railing creates a 360-degree secure perimeter around the boat. On traditional center consoles, passengers must step over open gunwales or navigate around equipment to move from bow to stern. On the 222 Dorado, passengers walk inside the railing circuit—similar to walking down a hallway with handrails. This is especially important for elderly passengers, children, and anyone with mobility concerns. The railing also provides security in rough water when the boat is rocking.
The cover is custom-fitted to the 222 Dorado's exact geometry, including both consoles and the forward passenger windshield. The cover drapes smoothly over both structures, and the tie-down straps anchor at the rubrail and console bases. No special modification is needed for the dual-console layout—the cover is designed for it from the start. The smooth fit prevents water pooling between the consoles and ensures efficient water runoff across the full deck.
With twin 150 HP engines (300 HP combined), expect 1.5–2.5 mpg at cruise speed. The NuV3 hull's efficiency keeps consumption reasonable despite the twin-engine setup. The 70-gallon tank provides 100–175 nm of realistic range at cruise. With the single 200 HP option, fuel economy improves to 2.5–3.5 mpg, extending range to 175–245 nm. For coastal cruising with fuel stops available, either configuration provides comfortable range.
Marina storage exposes the cover to constant humidity and occasional dock spray. Rinse the cover with fresh water weekly if your boat is moored in saltwater. Inspect tie-down straps monthly for corrosion and replace any corroded hardware immediately. In humid seasons, remove the cover every 2–3 weeks to allow full air circulation and prevent mold. If mold appears, treat immediately with mild detergent and a soft brush. Sunbrella fabric is strongly recommended for boats kept in marina slips year-round.
Each Dorado model requires a model-specific cover—the 222 Dorado cover won't fit a 235 or 242 Dorado due to differences in length, beam, and console configuration. However, Perfect Fit can often provide credit or trade-in options for your existing cover when you order a new one for a larger model. Contact our sales team to discuss upgrade options when you're ready to move up the Dorado lineup.

Scout 222 Dorado Center Console Boat Cover

The Scout 222 Dorado occupies the sweet spot of dual-console ownership—large enough to deliver genuine cruising comfort and twin-engine capability, yet compact enough to trailer and maintain without heavy-duty infrastructure. At 22’2″ with the NuV3 triple-stepped hull, a 70-gallon fuel tank, and the option for twin 150 HP engines, the 222 Dorado offers the walk-around deck circuit, passenger windshield, and safety railing that define the Dorado family. Families choose the 222 because it transitions seamlessly from weekday fishing to weekend cruising without compromise. Scout’s Summerville, South Carolina, craftsmen engineer every detail for this dual-purpose mission—from the hull layup to the console ergonomics to the deck drainage system.

A Perfect Fit center console cover for the 222 Dorado wraps your entire boat—hull, deck, both consoles, and passenger windshield—in durable, custom-fitted protection. Available in solution-dyed marine fabric (5–7 years) or premium Sunbrella acrylic (8–10 years), the cover anchors with reinforced tie-down straps at the rubrail and console bases. The dual-console layout and windshield are fully accommodated by the custom fit—no bunching between consoles, no gaps around the windshield frame—just smooth, continuous protection that sheds water efficiently across the full 8’6″ beam.

Mid-Size Dorado Versatility, Maximum Coverage

The 222 Dorado’s dual-console walk-around layout creates more exposed surface area than a traditional center console—both consoles, the passenger windshield, the walk-around deck circuit, and all the seating areas need protection from UV, salt, and weather. Your center console cover addresses every square foot of that exposed surface, creating a sealed environment that preserves gelcoat color, upholstery softness, and hardware functionality. For boats stored in marina slips where humidity and salt spray are constant, the cover is the single most effective investment you can make in preserving your 222 Dorado’s condition and value.
