7 oz. Polyester — Our entry-level marine cover fabric, woven from 100% polyester fiber at a 7 oz. per linear yard weight. This lighter option keeps the cover manageable for solo handling while still delivering reliable protection against sun, rain, and debris. Backed by a 3-year fabric warranty. Ships in Black.
9 oz. Polyester — Step up to our heavy-duty polyester, engineered at 9 oz. per linear yard for boats that face tougher conditions or extended outdoor storage. The denser weave adds an extra layer of defense against abrasion and weather without adding unnecessary bulk. Protected by a 5-year fabric warranty. Ships in Navy or Black.
Sunbrella® — For boaters who want the best, our Sunbrella covers use 100% solution-dyed acrylic — the same fabric trusted by marine professionals worldwide. Naturally resistant to fading, mold, and water damage, Sunbrella holds its color and integrity season after season. Covered by a 6-year fabric warranty. Ships in Black, Smoke, or Marine Blue.
Both polyester options feature solution-dyed construction, where pigment is infused into each fiber during production rather than applied to the surface afterward. This process locks color deep into the material, preventing any dye transfer to your boat’s gel coat or finish. The result is a cover that stays vibrant without bleeding or rubbing off. Our polyester is also designed to breathe — it allows moisture trapped underneath to vent out naturally, reducing the risk of mildew and keeping your boat dry. The fabric holds its form without sagging or stretching over time, stays lightweight enough for one person to handle, and stands up to prolonged UV exposure and harsh marine weather.
*The warranty periods above are provided by the fabric manufacturer and cover the material itself. For details on what’s included in the warranty for your completed cover, please see our warranty page.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Extended Series (XS) is Scout's dedicated hybrid platform—engineered for boaters who want to fish both shallow bays and offshore waters without compromise. Unlike the XSF sportfish line (optimized for premium fishing amenities) or the Dorado family (optimized for dual-console family cruising), the 251 XS balances shallow-water access (13" draft) with genuine offshore capability (18-degree deadrise, 300 HP twin engines, 80-gal fuel tank). It's a true working boat: accessible to backcountry guides fishing redfish and tarpon, yet powerful enough for offshore runs to reefs or canyons. The T-Top provides shade and weather protection without adding the weight or cost of full hardtop infrastructure. The 251 XS is Scout's answer to "What if I needed to fish shallow flats AND deep water?"
Most 24-footers draft 16–20 inches, limiting them to deeper channels and marinas. The 251 XS's 13" draft is exceptional—it allows access to grass flats, shallow coves, and backwater areas that traditional V-hulls can't navigate. This isn't a sacrifice to achieve shallow draft; Scout engineered the 251 XS's NuV3 hull specifically to deliver both shallow draft and offshore seaworthiness simultaneously. The triple-stepped design distributes weight efficiently and reduces wetted surface, so the boat doesn't sink deeper into the water under load. Guides using the 251 XS report running 50-mile offshore runs in the morning, then poling 8-foot flats in the afternoon—this versatility is rare in any boat, especially at this price point.
The T-Top cover is water-repellent and fabric-grade weatherproof, but it's not truly waterproof like a vinyl canvas bimini top. During heavy rain, some water may collect at anchor points or seams if the boat isn't tilted slightly. The cover is designed with slight slope (if the boat sits evenly on a level slip) to encourage water to run off toward the rubrail, and the fabric's tight weave and solution-dyed or Sunbrella treatment repels most water. In practice, brief rain runs off harmlessly; extended heavy downpour may require occasional water bailing (typically 10–20 gallons per event). This is normal for fabric covers and not a defect. If water pooling becomes an issue, slight bow-up or stern-up tilt on a mooring allows full water drainage.
With 80 gallons of fuel and the NuV3 hull's efficiency, the 251 XS has a realistic range of 200+ nautical miles at cruise speed. For day-trip offshore fishing (30–100 nm), it's excellent. For overnight offshore cruising, the 80-gal tank limits your range—you'd want to run offshore in daylight, anchor at a protected spot, and return to mainland the next day rather than attempting multi-day ocean crossings. Scout equips some XS models with cabin bunks, depending on configuration, which enables true overnight capability in protected waters. Check with your Scout dealer about cabin options for your specific model configuration.
The T-Top on the 251 XS already provides permanent weather and sun protection—additional bimini or cockpit shade isn't typical. However, some owners add a small cockpit shade that deploys from the hardtop for additional sun protection during idle/docking time. The T-Top cover works with standard hardtop height; if you add permanent structure, we can discuss a modified cover with cutouts. Contact our custom cover team if you're planning major shade modifications.
An 18-degree deadrise is relatively moderate (true offshore boats run 20–25 degrees, bay boats run 12–15 degrees). The 251 XS's 18-degree angle gives a balanced ride—it's softer than a flat-bottomed bay boat but not as sharp as a pure offshore hull. In calm to moderate seas (2–4 feet), the 251 XS rides smoothly with minimal pounding. In rougher conditions, it can be wetter than a true offshore boat but handles much better than a shallow-draft bay boat. Fuel economy stays efficient due to the NuV3 triple-step design—you're not sacrificing mpg despite the moderate deadrise. It's a genuinely balanced design rather than optimizing for one condition at the expense of others.
The 251 XS is less tackle-focused than the XSF sportfish line (which have integrated tournament infrastructure), but more fishing-oriented than the Dorado. Scout typically equips the 251 XS with rodholder provisions, a console storage compartment, and a lower-level fish box. The open deck allows aftermarket tackle boxes, and many guides customize their 251 XS with additional storage systems. The T-Top and open layout prioritize fishing activity—you're not confined by hardtop complexity. It's a working boat that can be outfitted specifically for your fishing style rather than a boat with fixed tournament-ready infrastructure.
Absolutely. Many professional guides use the 251 XS for backcountry guide work—the 13" draft allows access to shallow redfish and permit water that client boats can't navigate, yet the 251 XS is powerful enough to run 50+ nm offshore for grouper or snapper if the market demands it. The rugged NuV3 hull handles daily use, and the open deck is customizable for guide-specific equipment. Insurance and licensing requirements vary by location, so verify your state's commercial fishing boat regulations before operating commercially, but mechanically and practically, the 251 XS is guide-worthy.
Saltwater mooring requires rigorous maintenance: rinse the boat and cover with fresh water after every use, inspect the T-Top cover and tie-downs monthly for salt corrosion, and zinc sacrificial anodes (typically installed on the engine and prop) should be inspected every 3–4 months and replaced as needed. The cover protects the deck, console, and seating from salt spray, which dramatically extends hardware life and reduces cosmetic degradation. Winter storage should include a full freshwater rinse, drying under the cover, and removal of the battery to prevent corrosion. Sunbrella fabric is strongly recommended for saltwater mooring due to superior mold resistance and salt spray tolerance.
The 251 XS T-Top and 251 XS CC (center console) share the same hull and NuV3 engineering but offer different layouts. The CC version wraps the entire hull (more complete protection), while the TT version covers below the hardtop (weather protection plus hardtop shade). The TT version typically costs slightly more due to hardtop installation and engineering. The TT is better for extended fishing trips where shade matters, while the CC is better for pure fishing work where you want open water without hardtop structure. Both are equally capable offshore and shallow-water fishing platforms; the choice is about comfort and deck layout preference.
Scout 251 XS T-Top Boat Cover
The Scout 251 XS is a rare unicorn: a legitimate hybrid that masters both shallow-water and offshore fishing without compromise. At 24’10” with a remarkable 13″ draft, the 251 XS accesses redfish flats and tarpon bays that traditional center consoles can’t follow. Yet the NuV3 triple-stepped hull, 18-degree deadrise, and twin 300 HP engines deliver genuine offshore seaworthiness for 50+ nm runs to reefs, wrecks, and canyons. Guides depend on the 251 XS for its versatility; recreational anglers love it for the freedom to fish anywhere. The T-Top hardtop provides weather protection and sun shade without the weight penalty of full hardtop infrastructure, and Scout’s Summerville, South Carolina, craftsmen have engineered every hull detail with meticulous precision since 1989.
Our Perfect Fit T-Top cover for the 251 XS protects the deck, console, and seating areas below the hardtop, shielding them from UV rays, salt spray, and weather damage. Available in durable solution-dyed marine fabric (5–7 year lifespan) or premium Sunbrella acrylic (8–10 years), the cover custom-fits your exact 251 XS specifications with reinforced stitching, protective hem cord at the rubrail, and adjustable tie-down straps that anchor below the hardtop. Whether you’re moored in a salty estuary or parked in a coastal marina, the cover keeps your boat’s gelcoat, upholstery, and electronics protected during storage and between fishing trips.
The 251 XS’s engineering philosophy is revolutionary for its size class: don’t compromise on one type of fishing to optimize for another. The 13″ draft means guides can pole flats in 8 feet of water; the 18-degree deadrise and twin engines mean you can run 75 nm offshore in 3-foot seas. The T-Top cover works with this hybrid strategy perfectly—it shades the console and deck during idle time and protects everything topside during unattended mooring, all without the structural complexity of a full hardtop system. The result is a boat that’s equally at home on a shallow flat or offshore, protected by a cover that’s equally practical for both missions.
